Community volunteer organisations give so much to our State all year round. Members of these groups contribute their time and energy in an effort to improve the lives of their neighbours and their communities and are the natural choice to lead a day on which to celebrate all that we enjoy in Tasmania.
Small Grants will be available to every Apex, Rotary and Lions club in Tasmania to help create an event in their local community in 2010. Supplementary Grants will also be offered to other volunteer organisations and to local councils.
Whether it’s having a neighbourhood BBQ, or a sports day or a spud throwing competition - every town and community, every street and every family should have the opportunity to engage in a relaxing day of community connection.
The aims of Celebrate Tasmania Day is to:
- Strengthen local communities by providing opportunities for Tasmanians to become involved and engage with their community through positive local events;
- Build community pride and self-esteem through promotion of our unique culture and identity;
- Increase awareness and participation in volunteering especially amongst those under the age of 35.
- Challenge Tasmanians to get active in their local community by:
- Getting to know their neighbor/community
- Getting involved and give something back through volunteering
- Getting along to a local event.
Grants were provided to volunteer organisations that:
- Support the volunteering theme and values of the day.
- Is an event that the local community will find attractive and build connection with the community.
- Is a one-off event and cannot be used to extend an existing event.
