As Tasmanians, we are at our best when we are working together. Nowhere is that more clearly displayed than through the dedication of our volunteers throughout the Tasmanian community. Day in and day out, people from all walks of life give their time to help others.
On Sunday 8 November, we marked the inaugural Celebrate Tasmania Day through 43 events delivered by 81 community organisations across the length and breadth of our State.
At picnics, parties and BBQ’s around Tasmania, people took time out to meet their neighbours and to celebrate a genuine community day.
I’d like to congratulate and thank all the community organisations that put on events and embraced this first Celebrate Tasmania Day to make it such a great success.
On behalf of all Tasmanians, I offer a big thank you to Tasmania’s thousands of volunteers who we need to appreciate every day of the year.
And finally I thank the Tasmanian public for having turned out around the State to show their support for Celebrate Tasmania Day, which I think will very quickly become enshrined as a signature day on Tasmania’s calendar.
